Just as your "core" is not just a body part (remember: it includes abs, back, glutes, and even pelvic floor muscles), so too is your "abs" not just a muscle. In fact, your abdominal muscles are made up of four different muscles: the rectus abdominis, the transverse abdominis, and the internal and external obliques.
Each of these muscles play a role in your overall core strength, but your lower abs (the lower part of the rectus abdominis) are often one of the more difficult areas to work. To help you, we've rounded up some exercises from our favorite trainers that not only challenge your core, but also your lower abs in particular. So pull that belly button towards your spine and be on your way!
