Finding Love at HyperSpeed

So you're looking for love in an app. Don't worry, you are not alone – almost one in four now meet online.

You already know that your personal profile is key to attracting someone, but you may not realize how important it is.

Go beyond speed dating

A new study, carried out in collaboration with the well-known dating site eharmony, shows that it takes people even less time than we thought to select a potential partner online – just a second.

The news is not all bad, however. The study, which was attended by 900 people, also shows how you can improve your profile to get that special person's attention and hopefully improve your love life.

How do I make her like me back?

You can't make someone like you. What you can do is create your profile so that it conveys the most important things about you. Here are the study's top 10 suggestions:

  1. place
  2. Age
  3. Non-smoker
  4. Weight
  5. height
  6. Starting a family
  7. Desire to have children
  8. Desire to have pets
  9. income
  10. job

Keep these points in mind when creating your profile. Relative placements in this list are slightly different for men and women, but they usually don't differ by more than a few points.

Fitting a lot of information in a small space is the best choice. Profiles between 200 and 250 words are most effective. This can increase your chance of a response by up to 50%.

Change standards

Two other factors that are very important to consider are gender roles and good behavior. Another popular dating website, Match.com, publishes an annual poll that highlights trends in relationship building. The 2019 survey showed some interesting changes in terms of what is considered "normal".

Young men are increasingly accepting that women take the initiative, while over 30% of men across all ages are more reluctant to go on dates because of the #MeToo movement. Social media discussion topics and jokes have changed for over 15% of respondents. So be careful what you post or include on your profile, but don't be afraid to take the lead (respectfully) no matter what gender you are.

The final result

Online dating is fast becoming an important part of modern romance, and decisions can be made very quickly.

If you carefully design your profile so that it has the right points in the right place, your chances of getting a response will increase significantly. Take these tips and do your best.
