The 2021 Flower & Plant Of The Year: Sunflowers & Prayed Plants

It's safe to say that the plant frenzy won't subside anytime soon. In 2021, the long-standing arrangement authority 1-800-Flowers predicts that it will only get lighter.

For their annual flower and plant forecast of the year, they signal brighter days with sunflowers and the Red Maranta Prayer Plant securing the top spots in their houseplant hierarchy.

"The sunflower, which stands tall and exudes joy, and the Red Maranta prayer plant with leaves that fold gratefully like hands, encourage us to connect with others and make the most of the special moments in life," said Alfred Palomares, Vice President of Merchandising for the company, in a statement, "Bright and spirited, both the flower and the plant can bring these properties to the home."

There are many lessons to be learned from nature. While these colorful plants won't save the world, they can be a daily reminder that time goes by, things are growing and – with any luck – we will all soon be waiting for new leaves. If you're inspired to bring these bright beauties into your space, here are some maintenance tips to keep them around longer.
