What To Anticipate At Your First {Couples}’ Remedy Session

What To Expect At Your First Couples' Therapy Session

While each couple has specific goals or issues to work on, the therapist's goal is to facilitate communication, honesty, and healing between them.

"A therapist knows how to help couples solve the real problems [at the heart of the problem] and can provide skills or appropriate recommendations to help them do so," explains marriage therapist Linda Carroll M.S., LMFT. These skills include, for example, honesty, expressing emotional needs, and resolving disagreements.

"Couples often come for help with bondage disruptions, to grow apart, to want more sexual connection and to need to treat each other differently," licensed marriage and family therapist Lexx Brown-James, Ph.D., LMFT, told mbg .

"The main problem that people always stand up for is communication, but I don't think that's necessarily true," she adds. "People often understand what the other is saying; they are just not honest in what they are communicating."
