A Doctor's Weight Loss Story - Dr. Paula Gilvarry

We were very pleased, Dr. Welcoming Paula Gilvarry to the podcast chair to tell us about her weight loss journey. Dr. Gilvarry recently retired and is the author of an amazing recipe book, Doctor on a Diet. More on that later.

According to Paula, she has been on a diet for most of her life, probably since she was 16. She lost weight and everything resumed. As she said, "I've tried every diet in the book."

Over 20 years later, Paula contacted Motivation and was able to successfully lose weight, but unfortunately she put it back on. As she admits, she went back to her old habits and really hadn't learned what the problem was.

Years passed and a little over two years ago, around the time she retired, Paula took stock of her life. She had a lot of weight on. She thought to herself that she didn't want to be too heavy to be lifted, that she didn't want to burden people. She wanted to run after her grandchildren and lead a normal, healthy life.

Paula contacted Motivation again, but it took her 6 months to get moving. She chose her daughter's birthday, June 9th, as the start date.

A month after starting her new motivational program, she was down a stone, but then discovered that she had a serious illness. Diagnosed as suffering Cardiac arrhythmias, Paula was told that it can be easily controlled with medication, but also that for every 10% reduction in body weight, she would reduce the risk of flickering again by 10%

As Paula says, “It was kind of a breeze. I had started with the pleasure principle of losing weight, now I also had the pain principle. "

As a lifelong foodie, Paula decided to pursue her own healthy recipes. On the advice of some good friends, Nevin Maguire and Francis Brennan, Paula signed a publishing contract with Gill, which in 2018 wrote Dr. On a Diet's “Doctor On a Diet”. Paula Gilvarry published.

Paula offers some advice on how to proceed with the Weight Loss Motivation Weight Management program. It is not just important to believe that you are dieting. You have to listen and learn.

Some of her friends who did just that are excited – they found out why this is happening to me (overeating) and how to keep it from happening again.

Paula's podcast with Aisling Connolly covers many other points and the podcast is well worth checking out.
