Dr Michael Mosley shares suggestions for fast weight reduction – ‘more practical’ than going ‘gradual’


Dr. Michael Mosley often shares his weight loss tips with leaner people online and on TV. He is the creator of The Fast 800 – a diet plan that helps people lose weight quickly. While this isn’t for everyone, Dr. Mosley that it is one of the most effective ways to lose those pounds.

Dr. Mosley backed this up with another study conducted by Australian scientists.

He said, “Researchers took 200 obese volunteers and put half of them on a low-calorie diet for 12 weeks.”

A reduced calorie diet contains fewer than 800 calories per day.

Dr. Mosley continued, “The other half were asked to cut their calories by 500 a day, which is enough to lose about a pound a week.


“You were asked to do this for 36 weeks.

“There was a very high dropout rate among the permanent diets – less than half made it to the end of 36 weeks.

“Most said they gave up because they were frustrated with the slow progress.

“By comparison, more than 80 percent of those participating in the rapid weight loss program followed it.”

Dr. Mosley added, “You were then persecuted for three years.

“Although both groups put some weight back on, the amounts were similar.”

The doctor quoted Katrina Purcell, a nutritionist who led the study, who said, “Our results show that if you lose weight quickly, you are more likely to reach a weight loss goal and drop out rates are lower.”

Dr. Mosley recommended following his Fast 800 diet plan to lose those pounds quickly, saying, “In recent years, large studies have shown that an 800 calorie per day diet is much more effective than the slow and steady, typical diet Weight loss to go about 10 pounds over eight weeks.

“Rapid weight loss is also the most proven way to reverse type 2 diabetes and prevent people with prediabetes from developing diabetes.

“The Fast 800 uses a combination of intermittent fasting and time-limited eating based on a healthy diet rich in Mediterranean ingredients such as fresh vegetables, legumes and fish.”

Other ingredients include whole grains, lentils, beans, nuts, seeds, spices and olive oil.

“The Mediterranean diet is widely recognized as the healthiest, most nutritious diet in the world,” said Dr. Mosley.

However, the doctor warned that the diet plan “is not suitable for everyone”.

He added, “And if you do decide to lose weight fast, you need to make sure you have the right nutritional balance in your diet.”
