Did you know already……
Ruby Murray was a Belfast born singer who was one of the most popular singers in Britain during the 1950s. So popular that she had no less than five singles in the top 20 at a time for a week in 1955.
Ruby Murray is of course also Cockney slang for a curry. Who knows where and when this slang originated, but in the early years after World War II, when London was being rebuilt, Asian immigrants added curry to their restaurants' menus?
Some bright Cockney sparks obviously continued the slang tradition and as they say the rest is history.
