Hair plays an important role in terms of our confidence and self-esteem.
Whether your hair is thinning, receding, lifeless or dull, it affects how we feel about ourselves. When we think of healthy hair, we think of luscious curls or a smooth, shiny mane. Unfortunately, most of us don't have hair worthy of a shampoo advertisement.
However, there are ways we can improve the health and appearance of our hair.
Proteins are one of the most important building blocks of life, they are the basic molecule of many life processes. A sufficient amount of protein is required for your body to perform its necessary functions and repair itself. Including protein in your diet not only helps your body run more efficiently and effectively, it also improves your physical appearance with effects such as weight loss, healthier skin, nails, and hair. If you have a sufficient amount of protein in your diet, hair can grow up to half an inch per month. These side effects don't sound bad, do they?
When it comes to your hair all that can be said is protein, protein, protein. Protein improves your hair. Proteins are responsible for making keratin, another type of protein that is essential for hair production and hair growth. A lack of protein in your diet decreases the amount and quality of keratin your body produces. If an insufficient amount of keratin is produced, that small amount still needs to be distributed to all areas of the body that need it. Therefore, it is so thinly distributed that it cannot perform its duties, the hair can become dull and brittle, and even hair loss can occur.
External applications of protein in the form of shampoos and heat protectant sprays won't thicken hair, but they can help make it healthier. According to the American Dietetic Association, protein will improve your hair, and the best way to improve the health and appearance of your hair is by consuming protein. There are many sources of lean protein such as; Poultry, eggs, legumes, fish, and for those who are vegetarian flaxseed oil, are great alternative sources of protein.
Protein also plays a significant role in weight loss. A person is more likely to see weight loss results if they choose to eat some calories from protein sources, e.g. Meat, fish, legumes, etc. while maintaining a moderate carbohydrate reduction. The reason is that protein helps the body burn fat more effectively.
