Super Speedy Stir Fried Beef and Broccoli

Few dishes are as easy to make as a pan, especially this super-quick seared beef and broccoli.

The key here is to make sure your wok / pan is really hot, hence the term – stir-fry. In this recipe we're using the flank, and it's a really tasty cut with a bit of chewing. It is important to cut the meat into thin slices. Ask your butcher, if he doesn't run off his feet, he'll be happy to do it for you.

This is probably one of the most versatile ingredient lists we've made. The bone broth is pretty easy to make. Again, ask your butcher for some bones to use to make the broth. The Tamari Soy Sauce is available at most good health food stores – try The Health Store.

For the unpasteurized honey, you have to look a little harder. SuperValu carries Olly's Honey, but your local craft store may have local suppliers in stock.

  • 400 g flank steak thinly sliced
  • 3 chopped garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger root
  • 250 ml bone broth
  • 80ml tamari sauce
  • 60 ml of unpasteurized honey
  • 4tsp toasted sesame oil
  • 365 g raw broccoli florets
  • 2 tbsp corn starch
  • 2-3 tbsp water
  • Roasted sesame seeds and sliced ​​green onions for garnish

Directions

  1. If you're struggling to thinly slice your beef, put it in the freezer for half an hour and then cut it. You don't want it to be completely frozen. So don't let it sit too long.
  2. Start by whipping together chopped garlic, grated ginger, bone broth, tamari, honey, and toasted sesame oil.
  3. Heat a wok over high heat and add the sauce; bring to a boil.
  4. Next, add the broccoli florets and cook until slightly softened for about 1 minute.
  5. Add the thinly sliced ​​beef and stir well.
  6. In the meantime, dilute the tapioca starch (or corn starch) in the water and pour it into the wok. Stir well and simmer for at least 1 minute until the sauce has thickened and the beef is cooked but still slightly pink.
  7. To complete this fried beef and broccoli recipe, serve with a side of basmati or cauliflower rice, garnished with toasted sesame seeds and sliced ​​green onion, if desired.
