Now let's turn to the BMI or the Body Mass Index to give it the right name.
Your BMI is an estimated healthy weight for your height.
If you are 14 stone or 89 pounds and a 6 foot tall man, you are likely a healthy weight, but if you are the same weight and much shorter than that, like a 5 foot tall woman, you will be overweight.
One thing is certain, the ideal weight is certainly not one size for everyone!
Calculating your BMI lets you know if you are a healthy weight for your height or if you are over or underweight.
Doctors most often use it to check if they need to tell patients to gain or move a few pounds.
The World health organization describes that a person with a BMI of 25 or higher is overweight.
To find out what your BMI number is, you don't have to do too many calculations.
A BMI calculator like ours does all of the hard work for you and all you need to know is your current weight and height.
You enter your details and let the calculator do the rest of the work.
Remember that the BMI scale is only a guide and will not be considered if you have a lot of muscle like a rugby or hockey player. Another great way to check that you are a healthy weight is to be about half your height in inches. Your waist size should be no more than half your height in inches. For example, if you are 5 feet 4 inches which is 64 inches, half that means your waist should be 32 inches.
