Why Doctors Refer Patients With Type 2 Diabetes

Why Do Doctors Refer Patients With Type 2 Diabetes To Motivation Weight Management?

It started 25 years ago with a referral to a family doctor. This GP made both significant and positive lifestyle changes, losing a lot of weight, and reversing his Type 2 in the process. Today this family doctor is still referring customers. And we have more GPs than before, partly because of word of mouth to GPs and clients, and also because of the alarming increase in the number of Irish men, women and teenagers with symptoms of type 2 diabetes.

The Irish Times article I am quoting from is more than 4 years old, but its facts are still relevant and noteworthy:

  • In Ireland, 1,000 new people are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes each month.
  • 1 in 15 people in Ireland live with diabetes. 10 percent of this population have type 1, an autoimmune, unavoidable disease.
  • The rest have type 2 diabetes, 85 percent of which could be put into remission if they weren't overweight.
  • It is not known how many have pre-diabetes.

The last point is shocking and extremely worrying – we don't know how many Type 2 bombs are ticking around. The following is a story our Marketing Manager Michael O’Brien told many times in the clinic.

Michael visited medical clinics as part of an outreach program. At one of the clinics, he was asking the receptionist why she was still using a Rolodex when he saw a crammed full and a brand new one with only a few entries. For her to respond, our contact details are for Type 2 customers and as old-fashioned as they are, we didn't feel the need to change them. Type 2, she noted, "is an epidemic" and the clinic is overflowing with it. In her 30 years of experience, type 2 was the most common disease in the clinic.

It's no surprise that doctors refer patients with type 2 diabetes to all of our clinics. It is our first recommendation from the GP network: way ahead of fertility and general obesity problems.

I have written extensively on many aspects of Type 2 on the Motivation website. Please check two of them:

We opened our first clinic over 26 years ago and have since helped thousands of customers successfully treat their type 2 diabetes.

Success in losing weight comes with many victories: health changes, behavior changes, lifestyle changes, relationship changes, fitness changes, and the list goes on. Reversing Type 2 is a victory that will have a marked impact not just on your own mental and physical well-being, but on everyone in your immediate surroundings.

For a minute – imagine life without Type 2 and how better you would be.

Please contact us – we will be happy to help you.
